The time period of the pendulum is inversely proportional to its length?

So the amplitude of the pendulum depends on its length also because the longer i will be the more will be the distance between the extreme position and the mean position,but I have read that the time period is inversely proportional to the length of the pendulum but is not dependent on its amplitude.Why is that so?
